Kyler Murray: An Elite Fantasy Quarterback

Kyler Murray

Today we bring you our next bold prediction in Kyler Murray. I feel that he is going to have a tremendous season next year in his second season in the NFL. He is a dual threat quarterback who has shown to me he has a very strong and accurate arm. The weapons in Arizona should improve next year and the offensive scheme should grow under Kliff Kingsbury. Let us look back and ahead to tell you why we think Kyler Murray will be a top 3 fantasy quarterback this year.

His Rookie Season Campaign

Looking at Kyler Murray in 2019 we saw a player who was an NFL starter from the start. Drafted first overall he finished as the 8th overall quarterback in fantasy football with over 285 points. Murray even missed a half against Seattle late in the season which most likely could have propelled him to a top 6 finish. Overall he threw for over 3,700 yards and recorded 20 touchdowns. He also added 544 yards on the ground and 4 touchdowns. This was all done with having multiple running backs play behind him, a rough offensive line and Christian Kirk hurt for 3 games. Larry Fitzgerald showed some age and Hakeem Butler missed the season. Andy Isabella was also rarely utilized leaving Murray with limited weapons. Through all of this Murray’s fantasy season should be shown as a major win.

Looking to 2020

If Murray’s 2019 rookie season is only the start of his production his 2020 year could be that much better. The Cardinals have been linked to possibly either drafting a star tackle or bringing in receiver Ceedee Lamb in this year’s draft. Lamb was Kyler Murray’s teammate at Oklahoma and their connection should instantly boost Murray’s value by that much. I expect the Kingsbury system to utilize Lamb’s ability which could boost Murray’s big play ability. Murray could also increase his rushing numbers for the 2020 season. Just like we saw with Lamar Jackson his dual threat ability should allow him to have a higher floor on a weekly basis. With an overall increase in his touchdown production which was lacking in 2020 that should push him to the top tier category of quarterbacks.

Potential ADP

With quarterbacks I often try to avoid taking a quarterback to early. Yet where I have seen Kyler Murray’s ADP so far I am tempted to grab him in most of my drafts. According to Fantasy Calculator his ADP currently sits in the 6th round. Yes this may not be 100% accurate however I would be comfortable taking him all the way up to the 5th round. You could solidify 3 solid running backs and a wide receiver before getting a quarterback with incredible upside. Of course this aspect of his draft profile may change depending on how the Cardinals offseason shakes out in terms of playmakers. One stat I love from his year is a .41 fantasy point per dropback. That’s an incredible number as a rookie and should be looked at more closely.

Kyler Murray as a top 3 fantasy quarterback may be a bold call but I am all in on it. His ability to move in the pocket and sling it should increase in his second year. The dual part aspect of his play reminds me so much of Lamar Jackson’s ability. I’m not saying he will replicate what Jackson did but if any player is able to do so it is Murray. Let us know what you think about Kyler Murray’s 2020 potential. Upside is key is fantasy football and going into his second year Murray should only ascend up in the fantasy world.

Murray can do it all for his team.
